OVERVIEW
From this course participants will gain an understanding of the benefits of an SCRUM way of working. The aim of this training is to demonstrate the practical application of the SCRUM principles. The content of the day will be adapted to the group and individual questions.
Becoming SCRUM means also introducing and implementing it in an SCRUM way. An iterative approach and an empirical process control is fundamental for a successful and sustainable SCRUM environment. Transitioning to SCRUM, like any major change, requires a clear strategy. The strategy is needed to set the guidelines on how to support the teams as they adopt new working practices like Scrum, as well as informing and supporting the rest of the organization which will be inevitably affected by them. It is important to understand that once the transition to SCRUM starts, it will never stop again as there is no “ideal” end state. Agility is centered on continuous improvement rather than a single end state.
BENEFITS
While training provides the theoretical knowledge and mainly SCRUM practices, coaching builds on that and focuses on assisting people and teams to discover the most important steps to become SCRUM: It enables and accelerates their understanding of SCRUM Principles through everyday work practices. Doing only the practices without having fully understood the principles behind SCRUM will hinder and even prevent you from reaching continuous improvement, which is crucial to a long-lasting and sustainable SCRUM transformation.
Empirical Process Control
- Understanding the differences between Defined, Statistical and Empirical Process Control
- Understanding control approaches, what to measure to achieve control, and how to steer the process
Pull System vs. Push System
- How does a pull system compare to a push system, which type of structure and communication do the two systems support and how does this affect people engagement and accountability to work
Lean Thinking
- Origin of the Lean thinking, the metaphor behind Lean, the cultural shift. Lean as the thinking foundation of agility, understanding of effectiveness and efficiency, flow control, overburden and wasteful activities
Iterative and Incremental
- Understand that a true SCRUM approach will both be Incremental as well as Iterative. Why it is important to apply the learnings and early feedback to create better products
