Course Content Descriptions

Discovery of Inventive Problems

Definitions of Invention vs Innovation

Topic sets the foundation and understanding of the focus area. Participants will have an understanding of similarity and difference of the focus area.

Resolving Technical Contradictions

Invention is resolving technical contradictions. Participants will be coached to identify contradictions. They will differentiate normal vs inventive problems. Team will be trained to focus on resolving inventive problems to achieve inventions.

Model of Problem

Types of inventive problems will be shared. Ways to identify the difference of contradictions. Method of modelling inventive problem to break psychological inertia.

Model of Solution

Basic building blocks of invention. Majority of technical contradictions can be resolved with the inventive principles. Introduction of 40 inventive principles and other model of solution tools.

Case Studies and Exercises

Examples and exercises will be facilitated to enhance understanding of concepts and tools.

Science of Invention

Voice of Customers and Voice of Products

Understand the methods to obtain requirements or features required by customers and market. How to complete the customer inputs with voice of product and voice of technology.

S-Curve (Growth Stage) Analysis

Analyze the growth stages of a product, process or system. Understand the definition of growth stages and how it can be used to set priorities and expectations.

Main Parameter of Value

Key features expected by customers and will determine the buying decision of the market. Usually there are 1-3 parameters of critical value to the buying decision. The parameters vary by market segment.

Indicators, Challenges and Strategies

Generate good understanding of indicators of each stage of growth. Describe the challenges faced at different growth stages. Recommendation or strategy pathway to tackle each growth opportunities.

Case Studies and Exercises

Examples and exercises will be facilitated to enhance understanding of concepts and tools.

Arts of Innovation

Disruptive vs sustaining innovation

Different and similarity of innovation will be covered. Participants will have a good understand of the types of innovation - disruptive vs sustaining and radical vs incremental.

Innovation Agenda and Roadmap

How to generate the innovation priorities and how to turn them into roadmap based on available resources.

Trends of Engineering System Evolution

Innovation system evolved in a predictable way. By knowing the trend of evolution, the team can project and anticipate the possible innovation pathways.
