Overview

This course is designed for all professionals working in project environments dealing with stakeholders albeit internal or external. Stakeholders are paramount to the success in projects. However, at the same time, communicating and working with stakeholders to understand, align and meet their expectations are very challenging and demands a structured and systemic approach towards managing their expectations.

It is also assumed that these professionals may have a lot of work experience and familiarity working with stakeholders both internal and external. Even with this experience misunderstanding, misalignment and miscommunication is bound to happen as this is the very essence of working with the human dimension.

Therefore, the main purpose of this course is to provide a structured awareness, understanding and approaches to these project professionals regarding proper project management principles, concepts and best practices in managing stakeholder expectations and how these work in tandem with the performing organization and project teams so that effectiveness and value could be increased and achieved such as satisfaction and meeting expectations.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will:

• Understand the definition of Project Stakeholders and Project Stakeholder Management and be able to differentiate from Functional Management.
• Be aware and appreciate organizational issues and structures specifically how they affect/impact project stakeholder management.
• Understand the importance to plan stakeholder management and be able to conduct proper stakeholder identification and execute appropriate stakeholder analysis/observations.
• Be able to understand and conduct proper stakeholder engagement management and developing appropriate strategies.
• Appreciate the need for continuously controlling stakeholder engagement by periodically evaluating stakeholder engagement management strategies.

Module 1 Introduction

• Introduce the Trainer and Welcome the participants
• Break the ice and be comfortable with one and another and highlight any administrative information
• Gain feedback/consensus on expectations
• Introduce the Course Objectives and provide an Overview about Project Stakeholder Management vs. Functional Management

Module 2 Definitions

• Provide more clarity on the definition and purpose of good project stakeholder management principles/practices
• Give a basic working understanding of project stakeholder management and its relationship with projects, project management and the business environment as a whole
• Discuss organizational issues that can impact the project stakeholder management
• Contextualize all of the above within the performing organization

Module 3 Plan Stakeholder Management

• Understand and appreciate the need for proper stakeholder management planning
• Be able to appreciate and carry out stakeholder identification
• Conduct proper stakeholder analysis and observations
• Be familiar with and be able to use the appropriate tools and techniques to execute all of the above
• Use proper documentation techniques and generate the relevant project stakeholder documentation, documenting all the above

Module 4 Manage Stakeholder Engagement

• Understand and appreciate the need for proper stakeholder engagement management
• Realize and be aware that managing stakeholder engagement in projects could be increased through proper:
• Scope Management
• Schedule Management
• Earned Value Management
• Quality Management
• Communications Management
• Be able to appreciate and carry out stakeholder engagement management techniques in projects
• Be familiar with and be able to use the appropriate tools and techniques to execute all of the above
• Use proper documentation techniques and generate the relevant project stakeholder documentation, documenting all the above

Module 5 Control Stakeholder Engagement

• Understand and appreciate the need for proper controlling and monitoring of stakeholder engagement
• Be able to appreciate and carry out stakeholder engagement controlling and monitoring throughout the project lifecycle and business contract lifecycle
• Be familiar with and be able to use the appropriate tools and techniques to execute all of the above
• Use proper documentation techniques and generate the relevant project stakeholder documentation, documenting all the above
