Teaching techniques
PSM training is an entirely hands-on workshop to deal with organizational challenges and implantation issues. Participants learn by doing, and the training facilitator focuses on individual interaction than theory. Participants work in small teams to learn and play all the roles to understand the importance of the Scrum Team.
Who should attend?
The Professional Scrum Master course is for anyone involved in software development using the Scrum Framework. It is particularly beneficial for those people within an organization accountable for getting the most out of Scrum, including Scrum Masters, managers, and Scrum Team members.
Course Topics
Scrum theory and principles
Why does Scrum work? Which theoretical foundations and principles are there for Scrum? How does Scrum differ from traditional software development, and why is it better for product development? In this section, we experience the difference and benefits of Scrum.
The Scrum Framework
How is the Scrum theory implemented through time-boxes events, roles, rules, and artifacts? How can these be used most effectively? We will experience why the Scrum framework is constructed and how you, as Scrum Master, can effectively use Scrum to control risks and create maximum value.
Scrum Roles – Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development
Who is supposed to be a good product owner? What does the Product Owner do in Scrum? Do they write stories or maximize value? Why do we need Scrum Master? Who decides Scrum Master for the team? What's the meaning of a Self-Organized Development Team? Is a Self-organizing team good enough, or do we need a self-managed team? Is a Developers cross-functional or a Development Team cross-functional?
The Definition of Done & Acceptance Criteria
Are you able to deliver truly done software? What does "DONE" means in Scrum, and why is it important? The workshop focuses on differentiating DONE and UNDONE and brings a discussion about Technical debt. Participants have to learn the meaning of DONE increment by defining the definition in the workshop. Why not have technical debt critical to growing an organization? How is Acceptance Criteria different from than Definition of DONE?
Product Development using Scrum
Learning by doing is the focus here. Participants work in a group like a real scrum team. They learn by practicing Scrum on a live project. The Small Scrum team plays all roles, creates artifacts to understand transparency, and uses events for inspection and adaptation.
Working with people and teams
Since Scrum is a process framework and makes the process work, the organization has to work a lot to resolve people and team problems. Therefore, there will be a lot of group discussions around specific challenges that most organizations face while adopting Scrum.
Scrum in your organization
It is more like the assessment to understand what organizations do good or not so good while practicing Scrum. Then, people identify areas that need further improvement to gain from Scrum.
The role of the Scrum Master
Good and empowered Scrum Master can bring positive change, but change becomes problematic when the change agent is not pragmatic. The workshop focuses on empowering change agents with the knowledge to facilitate change. The workshop covers topics such as Coaching skills of Scrum Masters, Change Agent to enable change, Facilitator to help get rid of impediments, Servant Leader for organization, and Process Owner to maintain Scrum practices.
Working with organizational challenges
Why is change hard, and what can be done to make it real? What are organizational changes needed to see the real benefits of Scrum?
Kanban Project Management
Getting Started with Visualization helps keep the project on the right track from the beginning. This module covers Introduction to the Kanban Method, Meanings of Kanban, Principles & Practices, Basic Kanban - Visual Board, Cycle Time Calculation, WIP & Little's Law, Proto-Kanban - Personal Kanban, and Team Kanban.
Design Kanban Process within Scrum
Scrum is a process framework, and Kanban is to optimize the flow of value. Using the best from both helps the team maximize the value of work. Participants will learn how to design tickets, boards, limit WIP, and various risk dimensions.
