Overview

Responding to project management's increasing growth, complexity, and diversity, the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, USA created the PMI-RMP certification to fill the need for a specialized role in project risk management.

PMI-RMP certification recognizes your unique expertise and competency in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating threats, and capitalizing on opportunities. It also validates that you have basic knowledge and practical application in all areas of project management.

Achieving PMI-RMP certification enables you to fill the risk management specialist role on your project team, hone your basic project management skills, and showcase your specialized expertise to employers.

To be eligible for the PMI-RMP certification, you must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. All project risk management experience must have been accrued within the last five consecutive years prior to your application submission. To apply for the PMI-RMP, you must have one of the following:

  • A four-year degree (bachelor's or equivalent) with at least 24 months spent in the specialized area of professional project risk management within the last five consecutive years, and 30 hours of project risk management education
  • A secondary-level diploma (high school or equivalent) with at least 36 months spent in the specialized area of professional project risk management within the last five consecutive years, and 40 hours of project risk management education

Applying For The Examination

To earn your PMI-RMP credential, you need to meet the experience and education requirements, and pass the PMI-RMP examination, a 115-question, multiple-choice exam within 2.5 hours.
