Overview

This course teaches students how to build a virtualization platform using the Oracle VM Manager and Oracle VM Server for x86. Students learn how deploy and manage highly configurable, inter-connected virtual machines. The course teaches students how to install and configure Oracle VM Server for x86 as well as details of network and storage configuration, pool and repository creation, and virtual machine management.

Learn To:

  • Carry out the installation, and configure networking and storage to support the creation of virtual machines
  • Create and implement a design for servers pools to support the needs of business applications
  • Select the best way to create virtual machines based on current or desired machine configuration requirements
  • Use the tools and policies available with Oracle VM to operate, automate, and optimize resources
  • Plan for the installation of Oracle VM with Oracle VM Server for x86

Objectives

  • Install Oracle VM Server for x86 and Oracle VM Manager
  • Perform network configuration for the Oracle VM environment using Oracle VM Manager
  • Perform storage configuration, with NFS and iSCSI, using Oracle VM Manager
  • Create a server pool and add Oracle VM Servers to this pool
  • Create repositories, present them to the Oracle VM Servers, and add resources to these repositories
  • Prepare virtual disks and network interfaces for virtual machines
  • Create virtual machines using various methodologies
  • Manage the virtual machines' lifecycle; Start/stop, pause/resume, edit, migrate
  • Use simple and advanced cloning to create new virtual machines
  • Become familiar with the Oracle VM Manager Policies and Events
