Overview
This course addresses the key technologies being used to implement optical transport in a network environment. It provides a complete foundation for understanding how data is transported over fibre and describes the key technologies being used. Standards for CWDM and DWDM systems are discussed, including system operation, key network elements and the key differences between them.
The Optical Transport Network (OTN) framework is described, explaining how it supports both legacy and emerging services. Also highlighted is how different types of data are transported over DWDM.
You will be able to
- Understand the properties of light
- Explain the principles of fiber optics
- Highlight solutions for wavelength division multiplexing & DWDM
- Identify the key components and terminology in DWDM based networks
- Understand alarms and protection Schemes
- Understand how data is transported over DWDM
- Describe the Optical Transport Network architecture & services
- Explain the key steps in planning a DWDM based system
