Part II - EDUCATION SERVICES’ VIRTUAL DATA CENTER

This procedure validates your site for the presentation of classes through network access to our Education

Service group's Virtual Data Center. In order to ensure that the class will be able to be run at your location we will need to perform bandwidth and functional tests.

Hardware Requirements: The only hardware which you will require to complete the testing is a computer with Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer.

Network Requirements: The client network's firewall must pass bidirectional traffic on port 80 (for access to the web presentation page) and port 443 (for the encrypted ICA secure session, which is encapsulated within

SSL). If they aren't open, it won't work.

Bandwidth Test: In our experience the ideal performance is obtained at a sustainable throughput of approximately 1.5 megabits/second. We have also found that when rates are below a minimumof 750 kilobits/second per student, the class experiences severe operational problems. Therefore, your site must have greater than 750 kilobits/second in order to successfully host the class. Please check your connection speed at the below

Functional Test Preparations: Please configure the client web browser for access. Your web browser requires a plug-in in order to process the secure session network traffic. Please access the Citrix website to download and install the latest version manually.

Select the Receiver for your operating system and click the

[Download] button. Save it to your desktop and then double-click it to install it. Please note that the operating system's security design requires you to be logged on as the local administrator with full privileges in order to successfully install and enable the plug￾in.

You may also need to adjust your browser's security settings.

  • 1. Select "Tools" on the menu-bar.
  • 2. Select "Internet Options" on the pull-down menu.
  • 3. Select the "Security" tab.
  • 4. Set the "Internet" zone security to "Medium".
  • 5. Set the "Local Intranet" zone security to "Medium".
  • 6. Select the "Advanced" tab.
  • 7. Scroll down to the "Security" section.
  • 8. Uncheck the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" box.
  • 9. Check the "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when

browser is closed" box.

Functional Test: Please logon to our gateway and take remote control of the test server or host.

Log-in as account "test" with the password "test123".

Once you have finished using the device, please log out of the remote computer.

To log out of a UNIX host:

  • 1. Right click on the desktop and select the “Logout” option
  • 2. Click “Continue Logout” when the logout confirmation dialog box displays

To logout of a MS Windows host:

  • 1. Click on [Start] and select “Logoff” from the pop-up menu
  • 2. Click “Yes” when the logoff confirmation dialog box displays

Once your class has completed:

click “Logout” in your MSIE browser to end the Meta-Frame session
