Duration
Electronics Instrumentation and Measurement
2 days
Overview
Central to the profession of all electrical engineering professionals is the measurement of electrical quantities, or more generally, physical quantities whose values have been rendered electrical by a transducer. Such measurements are almost invariably made with the aid of electronics, and increasingly by sophisticated instrumentation which provides multidimensional displays and analytical capabilities. As such, there is an important need to comprehend the physical principles of taking accurate, precise and trustworthy measurements.
The course is designed to provide a practical introduction to signal measurements with a focus on precision. It discusses aspects of measurement techniques (R, L, C, frequency, V, I), probe consideration, measurement loading, 2/4 wire measurements, electronic measurement parameters (current, noise, CMRR, PSRR, THD), quality of measurements and measurement setup, definitions of common performance specifications, measurement uncertainty and calibration standards (frequency and time). Comprehension of the topics covered is reinforced with practical experiments using test and measurement equipment, as well as simulations. Through attractive practical applications, student will learn fundamentals of the OrCAD software.
