Course Overview

An updated version of this course is available. For more information, click Developing Applications with IBM Business Monitor V7.5 (WB797).

In this 3-day instructor-led course, students learn how to develop monitoring applications with IBM WebSphere Business Monitor while also learning business process management (BPM) techniques and skills.

WebSphere Business Monitor is a business activity monitoring (BAM) product that supports BPM by measuring business performance, monitoring both inflight and completed processes, and reporting on business transactions. Business organizations can use the information provided by WebSphere Business Monitor to identify business problems, correct exceptions, and improve processes and efficiency.

This course includes topics of interest to those who want to develop applications using the WebSphere Business Monitor environment. Students interested in learning how to administer WebSphere Business Monitor should take course Administering IBM WebSphere Business Monitor V7 (WB794) or (VB794). Business analysts who want to learn how to design business measures using WebSphere Business Monitor should take course Business Activity Monitoring with IBM WebSphere Business Monitor V7 (WB795) or (VB795).

In this course, students learn how to develop, implement, and test WebSphere Business Monitor applications so that they can generate real-time business views of enterprise data. The course begins with an overview of BAM and BPM in a service-oriented architecture (SOA), and the capabilities that WebSphere Business Monitor provides. In subsequent units, students learn how to build monitor models, establish performance metrics, monitor events, manage action services, debug the model, and build a business space dashboard. Students also learn how to enable events from various sources, including WebSphere Process Server, WebSphere Message Broker, and other products.

The hands-on exercises provided throughout the course enable students to develop and implement a monitoring solution. This includes how to use the various components of WebSphere Business Monitor, such as DB2 Alphablox and the Monitor Development Toolkit, along with other products, such as WebSphere Application Server. Students use the Monitor Development Toolkit to develop a monitor model, and then test the model using the WebSphere Integration Test client. Students also build customized business space dashboards that can be used to analyze and troubleshoot process performance.
