Course Title : DB2 UDB Performance Tuning And Monitoring Working

Reference course outline

CF41Duration to discuss

Purpose

This course teaches optimum performance tuning for the relational database management system product and associated database applications. Performance issues affecting database and application design are discussed, as well as the major database performance parameters. The course also introduces different tools used to assist performance monitoring and tuning.

The course material applies to DB2 UDB Version 6.1. The course is based on the DB2 UDB V6 Control Centre GUI, which is platform-independent and therefore applicable to any UDB server environment. The course lab environment includes use of the GUI Control Centre on an NT operating system.

Audience

Database designers, database administrators and application developers involved with performance issues.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, you should be able to administer a DB2 Universal Database on a serial processor (non-partitioned).

These skills can be developed by attending one of the following courses:

DB2 UDB Database Administration Workshop for UNIX (CF21)

DB2 UDB Database Administration Workshop for OS/2 (CF22)

DB2 UDB Database Administration Workshop for Windows NT (CF23).

Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

Define the impact of database design (tables, indexes, data placement, etc.) on database performance

Describe database application programming considerations and how they affect performance

Identify and describe the parameters (database and non-database) which affect performance

Tune parameters to achieve optimum performance

Identify and use tools to assist in monitoring and tuning a database.
