Overview
The architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is undergoing a major transformation due to the emergence of 3-D building information modeling (BIM) and other digital technologies. As a result, industry professionals now design and build in a virtual environment prior to starting construction, which helps to improve collaboration, increase building quality, and enhance the schedule while lessening opportunities for errors.
Course Objectives
- Understand what BIM is, its value and opportunities, and its limitations and complexities.
- Understand how BIM can be applied to project execution tasks, such as quantity take-off and tracking, planning and sequencing, spatial coordination and clash detection, as well as BIM support for field operations and facility management.
- Learn about the uses of laser scanning and hand-held devices for layout and other field activities.
Prerequisites
- Experience in construction practices, both planning and in-field practices
- Computer operation, using keyboard and mouse
Audience
Building industry professionals, particularly those in construction or fabrication who have little or no familiarity with BIM. Also ideal for those who wish to round out their knowledge and skills.
