Behaviour Driven Development

Course outline

2 days

Duration

Behaviour Driven Development

2 days

Overview

Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) enables a whole new level of collaboration between business people and software development teams. This new level of collaboration dramatically reduces defects which occur from inadequately articulated requirements and specifications.

BDD is a combination of three breakthrough techniques for maintainable and bug-free software; Test Driven Development (TDD), User Stories and Domain Driven Design. While, TDD allows us write maintainable code, BDD ensures that the right software is being built in the first place.

This two-day course provides hands-on exposure to BDD and the techniques that enable it.

Objectives

This course aims to empower attendees with the skills to put BDD into practice in their workplaces and with the confidence to teach it to others. Through a series of hands-on exercises, students with be able to translate business requirements into executable specifications which can be run by popular BDD tools such as Cucumber or SpecFlow. Student will not only learn how to drive the design of a system using these tools but also how to track and report progress on work completion.

Who should attend?

This course is for architects, developers, business analysts, testers, product owners, and end-user stakeholders. Regardless of their current roles in their organisations delegates will learn to apply the collaborative BDD techniques which will allow them to specify, design, test, integrate, track and report on software development progress.

Prerequisites

This tutorial does not require any coding experience. The tools and techniques are specially designed for non-technical people. However, participants must be willing to try out the hands-on exercises which will give them confidence in the practices. Participants will be guided and coached through the hand-on exercises.

Course Outline

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Apply 12 Extreme Programming techniques
  • Apply the principles and values of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development to new situations
  • Apply Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development techniques
  • Participate in User Story collaboration exercises and teach it to others
  • Tackle complexity in large domains through Domain Driven Design concepts
  • Practice with Gherkin syntax and tools such as Cucumber and SpecFlow

Programme scope, delivery arrangements and suitability are confirmed during enquiry.
