Course Objectives
An important aspect of work in manufacturing is to continually troubleshoot and solve line problems and customer complaints. This will then translate into improved quality and yields to bring our manufacturing operations to the next level. As such 8D Problem Solving Methodology provides manufacturing personnel need to apply systematic steps to identify problems, use suitable data collection and data analysis methods to troubleshoot line problems, identify the root cause(s) and potential escape points, then apply effective corrective and preventive actions to ensure complete closure.
Course Outline
In this step-by-step, hands-on workshop, you will learn :
- The principles of team problem solving. Situations to apply 8D problem solving method.
- The 8D Approach
D1 - Formation of team – Select team members, forming a dynamic team, rules and regulations, preparation for action.
D2 – Problem Description – Methods to describe a problem, prerequisites to problem solving, Is/Is Not Analysis
D3 – Containment plan – Plan containment actions, types of containment plan, examples of containment plan.
D4 – Determine Root Cause of Problem – Why-Why Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, methods to identify and confirm root cause.
D5 – Identify and verify Corrective Actions – Poka Yoke, design modification, Priority Matrix.
D6 – Implement and validate Corrective Actions – implementation strategies, methods of monitoring results.
D7 – Preventive Actions – Apply preventive actions to prevent problem recurrence, types of preventive actions, examples of preventive actions
D8 – Closure – Congratulate the team, closure and moving on.

Training Methodology
The training will be carried out with full involvement of workshop (more than 60% of training duration). Participants will use the concept learnt and apply in their real life cases. Participants will learn a lot of problem solving tools such as Why-Why Analysis, Poka Yoke etc. during the training,
