Duration
3 days
Highlights
- Suitable for participants who have some or no SPC knowledge.
- Course is structured and delivered to provide participants direct application of the 7-basic quality tools and techniques, rather than involving extensive statistical theories and calculations.
- Provides participants exposure to the use of SPC software.
- Learning of SPC is enhanced through software visualisations.
- Computing facilities required if participants are engaging in hands-on SPC software learning.
- Participants are encouraged to supply data for case studies.
Overview
This course is intended for managers and executives who need to acquire a working knowledge of the Seven Quality tools and methods, and interpreting SPC charts and statistics. Their participation through presentation, case studies, discussion, and hands-on SPC software practices, which help to facilitate an immediate transfer of such competency to workplace.
The additional value to course participants unlike other similar training courses is that the learning is supplemented with real SPC software called QI Analyst. The course covers key techniques and functional skills required to operate successfully when managing quality projects and day-to-day quality appraisal, process control, and preventive operations.
After completing the course, participants will have increased confidence and improved skills. They will feel more at ease and have greater control in managing quality, and ensuring that their process remain within control. They will be more willing to deal with various types of opportunities and challenges. We believe the key benefit lies in increased confidence, improved communication, and strengthened managerial skills, coupled with decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Participants are encouraged to bring in their statistical data for in-depth SPC analysis, which helps to uncover process problems, and proving suggestions to overcome them.
Objectives
- To instill the habit of anticipation with regard to identifying possible quality and process problems.
- To understand the use of 7-Basic Quality Tools methodologies in understanding, analysing and problem resolution of quality issues.
- To understand the use of SPC approaches to help in understanding, analysing and problem resolution of quality and process issues. This is a core requirement in the ISO9000 and QS9000 series implementations.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Have comprehensive understanding and application of the 7-Basic Quality Tools and SPC to apply immediately in their daily work.
Participants leave this course with an understanding of why it is crucial to spend time up front preparing for quality control and process control, appraisal and resolution of quality and process issues, and they will develop useful skills as they work through many of the exercises that are incorporated into the course.

Training Approach
The training uses practical exercises that take individuals outside their comfort zones. By giving the participants help and guidance during the process, confidence and skills are strengthened. We make the sessions challenging and practical through the use of role-play, experiential learning and group exercises. Participants will quickly discover their strengths and weaknesses in communicating with others. Moreover, this interaction makes classes enjoyable and motivational.
The tempo of the training is light-hearted and fast-paced. Our experience suggests that this makes people actually look forward to attending our training sessions and reinforces the motivational effects. Peer group pressure, structure and relaxed atmosphere are the key elements to the success of our courses.
Methodology
Presentation, quality and problem solving games, discussions, case studies, and exposure to SPC software.
Who Can Benefit
Anyone who is directly involved in quality control initiatives or in response to ISO9000 or QS9000 series preparation initiatives. This SPC course is also suitable to non-technical industries and service sectors such as insurance, research, customer management, and system methods studies.
